Biosafety imports
In order to import any biohazardous material you need to:
- Have a valid UVic Biosafety registration
- Contact the Biosafety Officer (BSO) for approval
Human Pathogen
If you want to import a risk group 2 or greater human pathogen or animal pathogen you must complete the following forms:
- Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) Containment Level 2 Checklist (complete with the BSO)
- PHAC import permit
If you require a PHAC Laboratory Compliance Letter you must completed the following form:
- PHAC Containment Level 2 Checklist (complete with the BSO)
Animals and Animal By-Products
If you want to import pathogens causing foreign animal and emerging animal diseases; animals, animal products and by-products, tissue, sera and blood that are infected with animal pathogens, you must complete the following forms:
- Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Facility Certification Form for the Importation of Animal Pathogens (complete with the BSO)
- CFIA import permit
If you require a CFIA Laboratory Compliance Letter you must completed the following form:
- Containment Level 2 Inspection Checklist (complete with BSO)
Plant Pest
If you want to import a plant pest, please refer to the CFIA import procedures and containment standards.
Aquatic Animal Pathogen
If you want to import an aquatic animal pathogen, please refer to the CFIA import procedures and containment standards.
